Ginger can be defined as a real elixir for our health, and this ingredient with many virtues should not be missing from our daily diet.
WHAT IS GINGER?
Together with turmeric and cardamom, ginger (Zingiber officinalis) is part of the Zingiberaceae family and comes from the tropical and subtropical regions of the Far East such as India and China, where it enjoys a hot and humid climate. Ginger is a perennial herbaceous plant, but the part that interests us for its healing properties is the root, more specifically a branched rhizome that develops underground, very rich in bioactive principles, among which gingerol stands out. For millennia, ginger has been used in oriental cultures in folk medicine as a medicinal plant, both fresh and in powder form.
WHAT ARE THE PROPERTIES OF GINGER?
The medicinal properties of ginger derive from the active compounds and essential oils it contains, including gingerol, an oily resin obtained from the root, which makes it an authentic natural antibiotic, with numerous therapeutic properties.
• Painkiller, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, it is very suitable for the treatment of rheumatism and arthritis.
• It also improves the absorption of nutrients, protecting the body from nutritional deficiencies and improving digestion, counteracting nausea and reactivating the metabolism.
• This activity also makes it a powerful ally in strengthening the immune system, preventing various pathologies, in particular improving resistance and healing from infections.
• Ginger also has the ability to detoxify and purify the body, eliminating the accumulation of toxins and raising body temperature.
• The consumption of ginger, both fresh and through infusions and herbal teas, is particularly suitable in the autumn and winter seasons, thanks to its protective and warming abilities, in particular against respiratory diseases such as colds and sore throats.
• Regular consumption of ginger, up to one to two cups a day in the form of herbal tea or infusion in the absence of particular contraindications, has beneficial effects even in the long term, proving protective against stroke and heart disease, and carrying out anti-tumor activity.
